FAQs

When and where will the event be held?

The reception and registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. outside the Oval Room at the Fairmont Copley Square. We anticipate Dr. Fries will begin his keynote around 7:00 p.m. and the award program will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m.

What type of entertainment will there be?

We are pleased to announce Health Aging Pioneer, James Fries, MD, has been named as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. Fries is a professor of medicine, immunology and rheumatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. As a nationally known and respected expert on long-term patient outcomes, Fries has authored more than 300 articles, numerous book chapters and 11 books, including Take Care of Yourself and Living Well.

Fries is perhaps best known for his "compression of morbidity" hypothesis which holds that the burden of lifetime illness may be compressed into a shorter period before the time of death, if the age at the onset of the first chronic illness can be postponed. And that, Fries notes, is the underpinning of today's value-driven health care system: better outcomes for patients and lower health care costs. Both, he says, can be achieved by reducing the length of time that patients are morbidly sick before the end of their lives.

During the reception, saxophonist Paul Ahlstrand will lead his stellar quartet in performing rich and steamy jazz. Paul is a composer, arranger, band leader and producer. Paul has performed with several well-known groups, including The Temptations, The Four Tops, Alice Cooper and Ronnie Earl.
